چکیده
Background: Primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the thyroid is a rare tumor with a poor prognosis. Case: The case of a 46-year-old female with SCC of the thyroid gland diagnosed by fine needle aspiration cytology is presented. The cytological features in the fine needle aspiration smears are described and the rapidly fatal progress of the tumor is underlined. Conclusion: In this report, we presented a pure SCC of the thyroid gland with locally aggressive behavior which caused a fatal result and highlighted the contribution of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) for a quick and reliable diagnosis.

Background & Objective: Chronic non healing ulcers or scar undergoing malignant transformation is a rare phenomenon with an estimated incidence of 2%. Though, numerous predisposing factors have been identified, still it is rarely diagnosed and commonly mistaken for a benign condition. The objective of this study was to verify the efficacy of the Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology/ Scrape cytology ...

Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a rare tumor arising from parafollicular C-cells. The oncocytic variant of MTC is an extremely rare diagnosis, with less than 20 cases reported. Here we present the case of a 36-year-old male patient with complaints of neck swelling and dysphagia. On fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), a Hürthle cell neoplasm was suggested. Finally with histopathol...

A case of primary squamous-cell carcinoma (SCC) of the thyroid which had been initially diagnosed as an anaplastic carcinoma (ATC) is described: female, 73 years old, with a fast-growing cervical nodule on the left side and hoarseness for 3 months. Ultrasonography showed a 4.5 cm solid nodule. FNA was compatible with poorly differentiated carcinoma with immunoreactivity for AE1/AE3, EMA. Thyroi...

Human papillomavirus (HPV)-related head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) are radiosensitive tumors and have a better prognosis than the conventional keratinizing HNSCC. Despite extensive radiographic and clinical evaluation in approximately 3% to 5% of patients who present with cervical lymph node metastases, the primary tumor remains occult. The lack of a clinically identifiable prima...
